Beer Week Suggestions for Monday and Tuesday


With more than 500 events on tap, you can’t plan your Beer Week too early. Highlights for Monday include cask ales at Social Kitchen, Colorado beers at The Willows, and Port and Lost Abbey at Original Gravity. Tuesday is the annual Russian River ‘tion night and a full plate of beer dinners. Dig in.

Monday, Feb. 10

San Francisco

Pin Fest! An Evening of Gravity Dispensed Cask Ales
Gravity dispensed cask ales from Social Kitchen, as well as several guests, will be featured on the mezzanine at Social Kitchen. The cask ales will be served nice and cool, in true English fashion.

Colorado Night at The Willows
Featured on draft will be Oskar Blues Peach St. Whiskey Barrel-Aged Old Chub and Appleton Estate Rum Barrel-Aged Ten Fidy; Avery Boulder Weisse; and New Belgium La Folie and Dieu du Ciel Heavenly Feijoa Tripel. Crooked Stave Vielle and Surette Saison/Farmhouse will be poured from bottles. You can also pair Breckenridge barrel-aged Oskar Blues with a shot of Breckenridge whiskey. (Like its sister pub The Sycamore, draft beers from the previous night will be half off while supplies last.)

Flight Fight
Firestone Walker, Hangar 24 and Speakeasy will battle it out in five beer categories: session, specialty IPA, imperial stout, barleywine/strong ale, and brewer’s choice. Blind taste each beer and vote on the winner.

A Community Built Around Beer
City Beer Store will host San Diego’s Societe Brewing cofounders Travis Smith and Doug Constantiner and will pour The Widow Belgian style dark strong, The Butcher imperial stout, The Madame Belgian-style golden ale, The Apprentice American IPA, The Harlot Belgian extra style ale, The Pugilist dry stout and The Debutante Belgian style amber.

Brothers and Barrels, Rare Beers from Widmer Brothers
Harry’s Hofbrau promises a massive list of barrel-aged beers from Portland’s Widmer Brewing, including the Cigar City collaboration Gentleman’s club brews, BA Old Embalmer vertical, variants of Brrrrbon, sours and some one-offs. Tasting flights available.

Port/The Lost Abbey Night
Meet legendary brewer Tomme Arthur, the award winning co-founder and director of brewery operations, and David Johnson, director of Distribution for The Lost Abbey. Original Gravity will pour Deliverance, Cuvee de Tomme, Red Barn, Devotion, Judgment Day and Serpents Stout from Lost Abbey and Mongo, Wipe Out, Board Meeting and Midnight Expression from Port Brewing.

Sour Night at The Sycamore
The Sycamore will feature an array of sours, including Rodenbach Grand Cru, Silly Sour, Cuvee des Jacobins Rouge, Petrus Oud Bruin, Bruery Reuze, New Belgium La Folie, Grand Teton Oud Bruin, Schmaltz Funky Jubilation, Monk’s Café, and Almanac Bourbon Sour Porter, Sourdough Wild Ale, Valley of the Heart’s Delight and Brandy Barrel Peche.

Russian River ‘tion’ Night
Toronado’s annual event features a large selection of Russian River’s ‘tion series of beers (think Beatification, Supplication, Temptation, etc., though the exact lineup is still being worked out). Lots of delicious sour beers, but also a whole lot of people, so get there early.

Paella Fest
Unlimited paella Valenciana and a seasonal vegetarian paella, paired with beer (including the SF Brewers Guild collaboration, Grizz’s Lawnmower Beer and Thirsty Bear’s Wild Stave barrel-aged sour), accompanied by live flamenco with guitarist Carl Nagin.
